Beginner online casino gamblers need to know that there are two types of table roulette – American Roulette and European Roulette. They also need to know the basic differences between the two if they want to have any form of success when playing at any roulette table. A knowledgeable gambler who understands the odds of the game they are playing has a better chance of winning.
The American Roulette wheel has thirty-eight slots. The numbered slots run from one to thirty-six plus two additional slots consisting of a double zero and zero.
The European Roulette wheel also consists of slots numbered from one to thirty-six but has only one zero slot, bringing the total number of slots to thirty-seven.
There are many types of bets that you can place on the American and European Roulette tables. Different types of bets offer different odds.
Single number – 35:1
Split bet placed on two numbers – 17:1
Street bet on three numbers – 11:1
Corner bet is bet divided between four numbers – 8:1
Five number offers – 6:1
Six number – 5 :1
Column consists of twelve numbers – 2:1
Dozen is also twelve numbers – 2:1
High or Low contains eighteen numbers each – 1:1
Red or Black is also eighteen – 1:1
Odd or Even consists of eighteen numbers – 1:1
American Roulette offers unique betting opportunities with Top Line bets consisting of five numbers, and an additional Zero number slot, while European Roulette offers a variety of unique Call bets. The more popular version of Roulette is the European version as it offers a better house edge percentage of around 2.8% compared to American Roulette’s 5.2% house edge percentage.
A player can place a number of mixed bets on the table, but care needs to be taken that the number of bets placed does not exceed the possible winning combinations. A simple example of this is a player placing a bet on Red and an equivalent bet on Black. If Red comes in, the player wins a certain bet but loses the bet placed on Black, of course the player won’t go anywhere fast.
